How do I weatherproof plywood

Lily pad , Monday, 9th of August 2010 04:18:42 PM

l am building a window perch for my cat, with a ramp. This will be done on
Lily pad
the interior and exterior of the window. The sliding part of the window

will be taken out and l will use 2 pieces of plywood sandwiched to replace

it. Once this is done, a cat door will be put in.

I am not

can use oil base primer and latex paint. What l am concerned with is the
flat outside perch and ramp. It will be more exposed to water, for sure.
For this, would oil base primer and latex paint work, or do l need
something stronger? l will be putting indoor/outdoor carpet on this part
of the job.

l live in Phoenix, where it is hot and once in a
while it rains. When it does rain, it can be 1,2,4 days or a week
straight, so there will be some water damage if left bare.

First, you need to use exterior or marine plywood. The glue in
Sexi
regular plywood will fail outdoors even if it is painted or sealed. You

can paint, varnish, polyurethane or finish the exterior/marine plywood

I think an oil base primer and latex paint will be sufficient
